Imagine having every single benefit from a water filter but without the annoying installation process.

That’s what a countertop filter offers.

It is a gift for people who have little space under the counter and those who don’t want to spend any time, effort, or money installing an under-sink filter.

Now, is that all why a countertop filter is such a great choice?

No, but you need to learn how countertop water filters work first.

And here, we want to show you exactly that.

What is a Countertop Filter?

Let’s start explaining the basics.

Countertops filters are often devices that sit on the kitchen counter to filter your water.

You will find them close to the sink in many cases. Sometimes, they may even replace faucets completely.

Either way, they are easy to use, inexpensive, and effective at keeping your drinking or housework water clean. A typical countertop filter removes lead, chlorine, cysts, and other unwanted particles from the water.

All of that without the demanding installation work.

Types of Countertop Filters

Countertop filters are divided into cartridge filters, reverse osmosis filtration systems (RO), and faucet filters, which completely replace the spout.

The most common type would be cartridges, as they require no electricity or plumbing system to install. They also happen to have the lowest price point. So if you’re looking for something affordable, this might be it.

Reverse osmosis (RO) would be the trickiest to install but the most effective at filtering. The super-tight membrane filters even the smallest of particles out of the water. Given its complexity, reverse osmosis systems tend to be more expensive as well.

And lastly, you’ll find the faucet filters. These can be a cartridge or reverse osmosis, but they don’t go in the plumbing but instead work directly as the faucet.

Benefits of a Countertop Filter

Regardless of the type, there are certain benefits you will enjoy from a countertop filter:

Easy Installation

Countertop filters are easy to install. All you need is a wrench to tighten it to the faucet, and that should be enough. Some may require an outlet to power up the system, but it is still effortless. You will need little to no plumbing experience to hook up one of these in minutes and make it work.

Portability

As easy as it is to hook a countertop filter, it’s also a piece of cake to unhook. You can move them around in your house if necessary. This will let you enjoy filtered water anywhere in the house where a water source is available.

Space Efficiency

It also saves space because it doesn’t take valuable space under your sink. Most of them are typically super-small as well. Some may even fit inside your hand, adding up extra efficiency.

Little Upkeep

Another cool thing about how countertop filters work is that they don’t need much maintenance since they’re simple. You can usually just rinse them out now and then with some soap or vinegar if necessary. Some models may require cartridge changes, but that’s about it.

Quality Filtering

Most countertop filters work similarly or even better than other types of filters – so you’ll have nothing to complain about.

How Do Countertop Filters Work?

Now you know what they are. Let’s teach you HOW they work.

First and foremost, understand that a countertop water filter works similarly to any other type of filter but with the difference that it is on top of the counter (DUHH!).

This difference is enormous.

Why?

Most filters are installed directly under the sink or in the plumbing system somewhere deep down the basement. Countertop filters are not.

In contrast, countertop filters come with a hose that plugs into the plumbing system (sometimes the spot) to receive the water, filter it, and provide filtered water on the other end.

Moreover, they work without electricity, so they can be installed pretty much anywhere. In case the system needs electricity, a simple outlet will suffice to power up the system.

The filtering process is simple:

  1. Water goes into the hose connected to the filter.
  2. The water reaches the filter.
  3. Depending on the type of filter, the liquid gets cleaned.
  4. Then the water comes out of the other hose or spout.
  5. You receive the water and use it however you please.

As you can see, there’s nothing complicated about countertop filters to consider.

Even the most complicated one works pretty much like its less convenient filter types.

With a better idea of how countertop filters work, you may realize how practical they are. And in the process, end up buying one for your home.

There’s simply no drawback to installing one of these. Especially in places with little space under the sink, a filter like this would feel like a game-changer.

Want to know more about them? Then get one. You won’t regret it.
