If you’re looking for ways to save money on revamping your home, you have to budget your furniture shopping. You don’t need to have new furniture. Not only that it’s pricey, but it’s also not sustainable.

There’s nothing wrong with buying new furniture, but if you’re desperately in need of new furniture but doesn’t have enough budget, here’s how you can save money when you go furniture shopping:

1.  Try checking out outlets and returned furniture

Outlets are a great place to spot unique and antique furniture pieces like a classic leather Chesterfield sofa or a marble center table. The downside is, you have to check the outlet every now and then if there are new arrivals or new releases. You can ask the sales attendee what days they have new stocks or sales. Most returned items of furniture are in excellent condition. They were either returned for reasons like it doesn’t fit in their room, too bulky, or got the wrong color.

2.  Try ordering online

Amazon and eBay have exclusive furniture discounts and deals when you shop online. You can also save tons of money since you get to use discount codes and promos. You can earn points, cashback, and vouchers that you can use for your next purchase. There’s plenty of used furniture sold at Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. It’s like an online garage sale online. It’s convenient, and you can get some pretty good deals too.

3.  Take advantage of clearance sales and big discount sales

Watch out when furniture shops announce all-out sales on specific dates. Black Friday Sales and Holiday Season Sales are usually the best time to shop since you can get larger deals during these sales. When a small furniture shop is on their closing sale, that would also be a perfect opportunity to snatch some great pieces.

4.  Use coupons, gift cards, cashback, and vouchers

When you stroll around the mall, and you happen to pass by salespeople who hand out flyers, accept them because most likely they have discount coupons stated there. When you use third-party platforms, especially mobile and online payment providers, they offer tons of vouchers, discounts, and cash backs for your purchases.

5.  Don’t be hesitant to buy used furniture

You can snatch some great pieces at garage sales, and they are usually antique pieces. Thrift shops and surplus shops also have good as new furniture. Just be sure to check the quality of the furniture. Ask the sales attendant about the furniture’s details, such as how many years it has been used, where it was bought, and alike. Be sure to sanitize the furniture first before using them.

6.  DIY your furniture

In line with the previous statement, you can opt to DIY your furniture so you could save more cash. When you buy used furniture, it would be wise to get creative and spice up your furniture—maybe repainting it, adding personal touches, something that would revamp used furniture into looking brand new. You can dismantle pieces and remodel them into something new, just like solving a puzzle.

7.  Negotiate as much as you can

Although you can’t really negotiate at big furniture shops like IKEA or Kohl’s, you can definitely use your negotiation skills in garage sales, outlets, and thrift shops. What’s great about these furniture places is that you can haggle as much as you can. You’ll be shocked how much you’ve saved buying from these places. This also applies to homeowners selling their furniture on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. They are also pretty easy to negotiate with.
