It may be helpful to know that wearing a wig is nothing new for those trying to understand the fuss about ready-to-wear wigs. Wigs have been here for centuries, with their use dating back to ancient civilizations. Wigs were so popular in ancient Egypt that even Pharaohs and queens wore them!

However, when it comes down to ready-to-wear wigs, a few things set them apart from your average wig. For starters, ready-to-wear wigs are usually made from synthetic fibers instead of human hair. This means they’re often cheaper than their human hair counterparts and require less maintenance.

Some concerns come along with wearing ready to wear wigs. For example, because they’re not made from natural human hair, they can sometimes look fake or unnatural. Additionally, ready-to-wear wigs can be uncomfortable to wear for extended periods, as they’re often tight-fitting and can cause headaches.

Today, we’re going to discuss how to get along with ready-to-wear wigs, both the good and the bad.

Getting Along with Ready-to-Wear Wigs

Acceptance

The first step is accepting that ready-to-wear wigs are not natural human hair. This means they will never look or feel exactly like your hair. However, with the proper care and styling, you can make a ready-to-wear wig look natural and stylish.

Be Prepared for Maintenance

Ready-to-wear wigs require more maintenance than human hair wigs. This is because they’re made from synthetic fibers that can tangle easily. As a result, you’ll need to brush your wig regularly and use special shampoo and conditioner designed for synthetic wigs. It would help if you avoided heat-styling tools, as they can damage the fibers.

Be Careful with Styling Products

While you don’t have to worry about damaging your wig with heat styling tools, you must be careful with your products. Hairspray and other aerosols can cause build-up on your wig, making it look dull and lifeless. Instead, opt for light, water-based products that won’t weigh down your wig.

Take Off Your Wig When You Can

Ready-to-wear wigs can be uncomfortable to wear for extended periods. If you can, take a break from your wig every few hours. This will give your head a chance to breathe and help prevent headaches.

Putting On A Ready to Wear Wig

Even though ready-to-wear wigs require more maintenance, they can be an excellent option for those looking for an affordable and stylish wig. Here are some exciting tips on how to put on a ready-to-wear wig:

  • Start with clean, dry hair. Before putting on your wig, ensure your hair is clean and dry. This will help the wig stay in place and prevent it from slipping.
  • Use a wig cap. A wig cap is a stretchy fabric that helps keep your wig in place. Put on the wig cap like you would a pair of socks. Then, pull your wig over the wig cap.
  • Adjust the fit. Once your wig is in place, adjust it until it’s comfortable. Always remember not to make it too tight, as this can cause headaches.
  • Style as desired. Ready-to-wear wigs come in various styles, so you can choose one that best suits your needs. Once you’ve found the perfect wig, style it as desired.

Using Tools on Your Wig

While you should avoid heat-styling tools, a few other tools can help you style your wig. These include:

  • A wide-tooth comb: Detangle your wig with a wide-toothed comb. Start from the bottom and work your way up.
  • A brush: Use a brush to smooth out your wig and eliminate frizz.
  • Hair clips: Hair clips can hold back sections of your wig while you style it.
  • Bobby pins: Bobby pins can help keep your wig in place and can also be used to create different styles.

Storing The Right Way

Store ready-to-wear wigs in a cool, dry place. Avoid storing them in direct sunlight or humid environments, as this can damage the fibers. Also, brush your wig before storing it away to prevent tangles.

Caring for Tangles And Shedding

As we mentioned, ready-to-wear wigs require more maintenance than human hair wigs. This is because they’re made from synthetic fibers that can tangle easily. As a result, you’ll need to brush your wig regularly and use special shampoo and conditioner designed for synthetic wigs.

It would be best to avoid heat-styling tools, as they can damage the fibers.

Cleaning Your Wig

You should clean your wig every 2-3 weeks or as needed. To clean your wig:

  1. Start by using a wide-tooth comb to remove any tangles.
  2. Soak your wig in cool water with a mild shampoo for synthetic wigs.
  3. Gently massage the shampoo into the wig, careful not to tug or pull on the fibers.
  4. Rinse the wig thoroughly with cool water.
  5. On a mannequin head or wig stand, let your wig air dry.
  6. The fibers can be harmed by using the hair dryer, therefore avoid doing so.

Applying Wig Products

As we mentioned, you should avoid using hairspray or other styling products on your wig. This is because they can cause build-up, making your wig look dull and lifeless. Instead, opt for light, water-based products that won’t weigh down your wig.

Taking Care of Your Scalp

Taking care of your scalp while wearing a wig is essential, as it can be susceptible to irritation. To help prevent irritation, make sure to:

  • Choose a wig that’s the right size. A too-tight wig can irritate.
  • Wash your scalp with mild shampoo before putting on your wig. This will help eliminate any oils or dirt that could irritate.
  • Avoid wearing your wig for prolonged periods. If you can, take a break from your wig every few days to give your scalp a chance to breathe.

Ready-to-wear wigs are a great option if you’re looking for an affordable and stylish wig. With some care, you can keep your wig looking its best.

Step Out with Glamour

Enjoy your new look! Ready-to-wear wigs have their pros and cons. However, if you’re prepared to put in the extra effort required for maintenance, you can make a ready-to-wear wig work for you. Remember to take breaks from your wig whenever possible and be careful with your products.
