Did you know that there are around 379,500 professional painters in the US?

Not all painters are created equal so it’s important to ask the right questions to learn more about their abilities. Perhaps this is your first time hiring a painter and you’re not sure where to start.

Don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place. Here are five questions to ask before hiring a painter.

  1. Are You Licensed and Insured?

Not sure how to paint a house? Luckily, there are professionals to help you.

When browsing painting companies, ask whether they have a license and insurance. The company must have comprehensive liability insurance and workers’ compensation coverage so you’re protected should an accident happen on your property.

Many residential painting companies also offer a warranty which means they’ll fix issues like peeling paint for free.

  1. What Estimate Can I Expect?

The exterior painting business should give you an estimate after taking a tour of your property. During this, ask about color options, explain the painting process, and talk about the timeframe.

Note a cheaper quote may not include the services required to keep the paint on for longer.

  1. Do You Provide the Supplies?

In most cases, the client buys the paint and tools while the company handles the rest. Some companies supply everything from dropcloths to brushes which will part of the estimate.

Remember to ask this so they can start the house painting project can start swiftly.

  1. Are the Workers Employees Or Subcontractors?

Many painting companies use subcontractors as it’s cheaper than hiring full-time employees. This question is crucial because the subcontractors may cut corners, not provide a background check, and produce poor work.

It’s also important to ask about the team’s training as it reduces mistakes and means they’ll complete projects in a timely fashion.

  1. Are References Included With Your Proposal?

Reputable paint companies like Paint Masters Painting Contractors LLC will happily hand over references.

Once you receive the list, ask how the company compiles names, how old the list is, and whether they have permission to use the names.

Ask to see past projects like yours so you can determine how well they performed the job. And if you’re still unsure, contact their previous customers directly as they’ll give you honest feedback.

Not giving up their references? Then that’s a red flag because the company knows their past clients won’t say positive things so keep on looking.

That’s What to Ask Before Hiring a Painter

Hopefully, after reading this article, you now know what to ask before hiring a painter.

Make sure the company has a license, insurance, and offers an estimate during your first meeting. You must also check that the workers are full-time employees and the company gives you an extensive list of references to show they’re credible. Good luck!
