Which Ceiling Fan Sizes Are Best for Your Home?

Are you considering buying a ceiling fan for your home? With so many different ceiling fan sizes and airflow options, it’s important to do your research before spending your hard-earned cash on one.

Room size, ceiling height, and fan location all play a part in which fan ceiling will work best for you.

If you have been on the fence about purchasing a new ceiling fan, this is the article for you. In this article, we are giving you a guide on which ceiling fan size you should choose.

1. Set Your Budget

The first step you’ll want to do is set your budget. Normally the bigger the fan, the more you’ll end up spending. Other factors that may increase the price tag are the following.

2. Determine The Room Size

A big room will not cool down or provide sufficient airflow if the fan is too small. Below is a guide to determine Which fan size is best for the room

Less-Than Fifty (50) sq ft= 29″ (inch) Fan or less.

50 to 75 sq ft= 36″ (inch) fan.

75 to 100 sq ft= 42″ (inch) fan.

100 to 225 sq ft= 52″ (inch) fan.

225 to 400 sq ft= 56″ (inch) fan.

3. Determine The Ceiling Size

Now that you know your room size and know what size fan you’ll need, You’ll need to determine the ceiling size. When installing a fan, you may have to meet building codes.

A ceiling fan shouldn’t be any lower than 7 feet off the ground due to safety. Check with your local building ordinances for guidance.

For houses with bigger ceilings, you’ll have somewhat of an advantage—the more space between the blades and the ceiling, the more circulation, and airflow you’ll achieve. Aim for about 12 inches between the ceiling and the blades.

Consider using a down-rod extension when installing your fan.

4. Pick Your Fan Location

It’s important to determine where you’ll place your fan when choosing a ceiling fan. Fans will have a UL dampness rating. If you’re planning on placing your fan in an area where there can be a lot of moisture, such as the kitchen or bathroom area, you’ll need to make sure the fan meets abides by this rating.

For most living spaces, you’ll want to place your fan in the center of the room for optimal circulation. If you have a special ceiling, such as a sloped ceiling, you’ll need to buy a special mounting kit.
