As the growth of cloud computing and AWS increased, there was also an increase in the myths circulating about them. Whether you own a business and think about cloud migration or you are working in the cloud domain, it is essential for you to differentiate between realities and myths. According to Statista, AWS had been ranked among the list of top 5 largest cloud providers in the world in 2019, along with Google, Microsoft, IBM, and Salesforce.

There are plenty of misconceptions in the mind of businesses and professionals regarding the AWS platform and its services.

Let us have a look at some of the most common misconceptions and try to clear them out.

Top 5 Most Common Myths about AWS

  • AWS is only for storage and does not provide disaster and backup management

This is completely false as AWS is not only for storage. No doubt that AWS offers an amazing set of services related to storage and S3 is the most popular among storage services, but it is not only limited to storage. AWS Glacier is completely based on backup solutions. Other than that, AWS also offers Storage Gateway for various advanced backup functionalities. These services are usually offered by some specialized Backup Solution vendors in the market.

AWS wants to maintain the quality, and this is the reason why they only offer jobs to certified professionals who have completed AWS certification in the cloud domain.

  • External hard drives and Traditional Tapes are cheaper and easier than AWS

This is a complete myth as the opposite of this is the reality. You have to operate the traditional tapes and external hard drives manually, and this results in the most common form of data loss, which is human error. In addition, as your need for storage increases, you need to purchase new devices for storage and that would increase the cost too.

On the other hand, AWS offers the pay-as-you-go feature where you would have access to the latest technology resources for your business. There is no requirement of capital investment, and you only have to pay for the amount of resources you use. As your needs increase, you can scale up the computing resources being used. As compared to the other storage devices like traditional tapes and external hard drives, this would save a huge amount of money of yours.

This is the reason why companies are hiring employees who have completed AWS training and certification as they would have a better understanding of designing a cost-effective organization infrastructure on the cloud platform.

  • Less control of data on the cloud platform

This is a common belief that when you put up your data on the cloud servers, the entire control would be in the hands of the service provider. In reality, this is not how it works. With the help of cloud infrastructure, you will have complete control of your data in real-time. By implementing simple monitoring mechanisms, you can find out all the necessary information about your instances. For example, you can find out who had launched a particular instance, when it was launched, how long it had been running, and also the list of applications that are running on that instance.

After the completion of the AWS certification course, the professional is capable of monitoring all the data on the cloud platform and helping the company in understanding everything.

  • It is pretty difficult to make the employees understand the usage of AWS

It is never easy to make your team or employees understand new technology immediately. It might happen that your employees would need some more time for understanding the cloud platform and its services. But, there would be some enthusiastic employees who would be able to adopt the change very easily and faster as compared to the others.

There are plenty of resources available in the market for making your employees understand about cloud certifications. You can arrange AWS certification training for your employees to make them understand every concept and service of the AWS platform in a better way and make them learn from industry-level experts. The employees would also gain a huge amount of confidence while working in the firm if they have completed the AWS certification and got hands-on training for the same.

  • AWS is only preferred by large enterprises

AWS is a highly scalable system that is in great demand among large enterprises like Netflix, banking systems, and Amazon. Other than that, it is in great demand among small businesses as well as startups due to its program for startups named AWS Activate. Even if you have a small business, you can leverage the services offered by AWS Activate as and when required, and your costs will still remain minimal.

Some of the world’s hottest startup companies like Pinterest, Airbnb, and Slack are operating on AWS. Even if you have started your business from scratch, you can opt for AWS services like the large enterprises.

These were the top 5 most common myths about AWS that are prevailing in the minds of several people in the technology sector.
