Are you looking to buy a new grill for your home, but aren’t sure which one to choose?

Whether you’re buying your first grill or your fifth, choosing the right one can be tough. After all, there are so many different grill options out there, how are you supposed to know which one is right for you?

Check out this guide to learn how to choose a grill.

Understand the Different Types

Choosing the right grill is all about understanding the different types of grills available to you. Whether you’re looking at a cowboy firepit grill or a charcoal grill, knowing what each type of grill has to offer will help you make your decision.

Here are the main types of grills to choose from:

Gas Grill

Gas grills are the most popular option on the market, and for a good reason. Gas grills are known for being convenient, efficient, and versatile.

Plus, there are many different styles of gas grills to choose from. You can opt for propane, natural gas, flat-top, or infrared gas grill. Each of these refers to how the grill is heated.

If you buy a propane grill, you’ll need to get a propane tank to fire up the gas grill. In addition to having a wide variety of grill options, gas grills are also great because they’re easy to operate and they heat up quickly.

Many beginners opt for a gas grill because of their ease of use. Gas grills also come in a wide variety of sizes, so whether you’re grilling in a huge backyard or in a tiny corner on your balcony, there’s a grill size out there for you.

If you take care of your gas grill properly, you can expect it to last for years and years. Of course, there are downsides to gas grills that need to be taken into consideration.

Perhaps the biggest downside is that gas grills don’t produce that smokey flavor that so many meat lovers long for. Also, if you purchase a cheaply made gas grill, the heat will distribute unevenly.

Charcoal Grill

If you’re after that smokey flavor, charcoal grills are for you. To fuel a charcoal grill, you’ll need to use charcoals bought from the store. Luckily, charcoals are pretty affordable and one bag lasts a long time.

Most novice grillers tend to steer clear of charcoal grills, as the process of lighting the coals and managing the fire is a bit tedious and time-consuming. However, for those who are really into grilling, tending to a charcoal grill is the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

In addition to the smoky flavor, they produce, people like charcoal grills because they’re affordable. You can also find charcoal grill models that are lightweight enough to be taken with you camping or tailgating.

If you want to add extra flavor, you can also add wood chips to your charcoal grill. However, it’s important to keep in mind that charcoal grills can be a bit difficult to maintain, especially if you live in an area with cold and windy weather.

Pellet Grill

Another excellent option to consider is a pellet grill. These grills are fueled by wood pellets that come in a variety of different flavors.

Maple, cherry, hickory, mesquite, and apple are just a few of the flavors you have to choose from. Pellet grills like the Pit Boss 700FB are also loaded with a variety of cutting-edge technological features that will take your grilling experience to the next level.

These grills are also incredibly versatile, so they’re a great option for those who want to cook more than just meat. People use their pellet grills to cook all kinds of things, and with a wide temperature range, you can also use your pellet grill to sear, bake, or smoke your food.

However, keep in mind that you will need to replenish your wood pellet supply frequently, so there are ongoing costs to consider. Also, pellet grills tend to be a bit more expensive, but most people find that they’re well worth the investment.

Electric Grill

If you’re looking for a no-hassle grill, then an electric grill is your answer. All you need to do is plug your electric grill into a power outlet and you’ll be ready to go.

Due to the absence of smoke, you can even use your electric grill indoors, making this type of grill a great option for city dwellers. Some electric grills are even small enough to fit on a countertop, allowing you to enjoy delicious grilled food all year round.

Clean up and maintenance is also super easy with electric grills, and these grills are also very affordable.

However, like gas grills, you also don’t get that smoky flavor with electric grills. Additionally, these grills tend to be smaller in size, so they’re not a great choice if you’re planning to host large family cookouts.

Kamado Grill

Kamado grills are typically made from ceramic, which is a long-lasting, durable material. These grills are great at retaining heat, so if you plan to cook a lot of pizza on your grill, a kamado grill is the way to go.

Many kamado grills also come with stainless steel bowls inside that can hold charcoal so you can give your meat that elusive smoky flavor. In addition to grilling, kamado grills are also great for searing, baking, and roasting.

Their major downside is that they’re very expensive. They can also be very heavy.

How to Choose a Grill: Are You Ready to Buy?

Now that you know how to choose a grill, it’s time to start shopping. Before you know it, you’ll be grilling up a storm and discovering all sorts of new recipes thanks to your new grill. In no time at all, you’ll be a grill master.
