What’s your faucet type? This is the first question to ask yourself before repairing or installing new faucets in your home. There are four main faucet types, namely disc, ball, cartridge, and compression faucets. But we will also look at the other types in this guide.

With the many different types and styles of faucets flooding the market today, deciding which type to put in your bathroom or kitchen sink might be difficult. Thankfully, we will discuss the features of each faucet type to help you make informed decisions.

Types of Faucets to Use for Your Renovation

The sink’s size is a significant determinant of the type of faucets you will buy for your new or renovated house. Before deciding, look at the many options available and select the right one. Compare the materials, finishing, styles, and prices.

You should also know the size of the existing faucet holes. That is where you will fit the new faucet, and it should fit well. Take photos of the same to the store. If you find it hard to install your sink, faucet, and taps, plumbing services Missoula can be of great help.

In this write-up, we will tell you more about the different types of faucets to consider for your renovation. Without further ado, let us get straight to it.

  1. Ball Faucet

Ball faucets are the most standard faucets in many houses. So, many people use these faucets for their kitchen sinks. They have a single handle and a ball-shaped cap. To open the tap, move the handle over the rounded cap.

Although they are common, these faucets are not strong enough, and with no time, you will start to notice leaks. You cannot compare them to disk and cartridge faucets the two are more durable than the ball faucets.

  1. Disc Faucet

If you are looking for quality and modern technology faucets, you can’t go wrong with the disc faucet. They are developed using the latest technology, and you will recognize them with a single lever over a cylindrical body. These faucets are very durable and will last you some years before you think of replacing them.

  1. Cartridge Faucet

Cartridge faucets are also sturdy and durable. They come with the option of a single or a double handle. The cartridge faucets are washerless with a smooth and consistent action. They have a look similar to that of a compression washer faucet.

  1. Compression Washer Faucet

These types of faucets are common in the washrooms. Their design is old, although they are still in demand. These faucets are one of the cheapest but are the most prone to leaks. They have two handles, one for cold water the other for hot water.

Pro Tip: When installing one of the top rated kitchen faucets in an existing sink, be keen to choose the correct mounting option for the new faucet. The new faucet needs to fit in the existing holes.

The number of holes and their size is what will determine the type of faucet to choose. A compression washer faucets usually have three holes.

If you’re looking for a bathroom sink faucet, it is advisable to consider the following three options.

  • Single-hole Faucet

It is also called a single handle because it has one handle. These faucets are suitable for small spaces and sinks like the bathroom and kitchen. They are common because they give a definite volume and temperature control.

  • Center Set Faucet

It has three parts; the spout and two handles. The handles are four inches apart, and they are all located at the base unit. It is easy to install, and it is relatively cheap. This type of faucet can work with single or three holes basins.

  • Vessel Sink Faucets

Unlike faucets in traditional sinks inserted, a vessel sink faucet is fitted on the top of the bathroom sink or countertops. The faucets are usually more than 4 inches tall, and you will mostly find them on vessel sinks. These faucets are common in bathrooms.

  1. Touchless Faucet

Touchless faucets feature the latest technology. They have automatic sensors that have a small infrared light. When your hands come near the lip of the spot, the sensor signals the faucet valve to open, and water comes out.

Other touchless faucets use ultrasonic field sensors. This one detects the movement of hands near the sensor, and the faucet valve opens. They use a power source to work.

  1. Sprayer Faucet

This faucet has a spray nozzle. When you touch the spray nozzle’s trigger, the water flowing into the spout diverts to the sprayer.

The water passes through the hose from the faucet and comes out through the sprayer nozzle. It can only work if the tap is on. No water will flow out when it is off.

  1. Pull Down Faucet

This faucet works best if your sink is deep and wide. It’s characterized by a faucet head and a short hose. The hose pulls down into the sink. These faucets are best for the kitchen because they work by spraying water on dishes when cleaning them.

Final Words

The type of faucet you choose for your house will determine the amount of water you will use. Notably, some faucets are easy to install, and you can do them yourself, while others are complicated. For complex tasks, contact a professional plumber to help you.
