Once your husband gives the sparkling eternity ring to you, you might not want to take it off ever. That is quite understandable, given the sentimental value of the ring. However, it is better not to wear it on certain occasions. Otherwise, your beloved ring can be damaged or need early repair.
What is an eternity ring?
Eternity rings are given to married women by their husbands to mark a milestone in their relationship. A symbol of eternal love, these rings are also given as wedding rings or, rarely, as engagement rings. Eternity rings have multiple diamonds on a band circling the finger. The designs have variety, as some eternity bands are heavily embellished while some have only half coverage of diamonds.
When do you take off your eternity ring?
If you want to keep your eternity ring in mint condition, you should take it off when doing certain work. Also, full eternity rings need more care and caution because of a higher number of diamonds in them.
Following are some tips provided by Emily of Fergus James, a diamond jewelry store in Dubai.
Work Out
You need to take off your diamond eternity ring when you are working out. Diamond jewelry is made of soft materials. If there is extra pressure on the metal, its shape may change. You might not be able to notice the damage at once, but it will comprise the ring’s value for sure. Moreover, if the ring is bent, the claws holding the diamond will also bend over time, risking the gemstones to fall out.
You need to apply the same caution to sports or any activity that may exert pressure on your ring.
Skin and Hair Care
Moisturizer, lotions, and other skincare products may improve your skin health, but they are not good for your ring. They lead to buildup that impacts the diamonds’ brilliance. If you notice a cloudy layer of film on your ring, your lotions and cosmetics might be the culprit.
Hence, take off your ring when you start your skincare routine and put it back on when your hands are completely dry. The same goes for hair care products like perfumes and hair spray. To clean the buildup from the ring, rinse it with dishwashing liquid and hot water. Use a bowl for that. Dry your jewelry thoroughly with a linen towel or cotton cloth. Clean it with a polishing cloth to ensure its sparkle.
Cleaning
Many women do not realize that, but cleaning is the most common source of damage to their ring. There is a high risk of banging up the ring on hard surfaces like kitchen counters etc. Along with affecting the shape, you can damage the setting and stone as well.
In fact, if you put on your ring regularly while cleaning, the stone’s color can alter too because of the harsh chemicals like ammonia and bleach. You need to be more careful when it comes to the eternity ring, as there are multiple gemstones involved and they might catch on to things.
Swimming
Never wear your diamond rings in the pool or ocean. The same goes for any expensive jewelry. You can lose the ring during the swim, as the water makes your fingers slippery. As for the pool, chlorine in water can discolor and damage the ring’s mounting as well as the metal band.
The same goes for showering, as the ring can slip off from the lather from the soap. You might lose forever once it falls down the drain. Also, chemicals or oils of the soap can dull the diamond’s finish and some might even scrape it.
Sleep
You should not sleep with your eternity ring on, especially with the full eternity ring. It has so many diamonds mounted or held by the band. They can snag your sheets or pillows or even get caught in your hair, especially if you are a wild sleeper. It might even slip off and get lost in the covers. Imagine waking up and having to spend a chunk of your morning time in a ring-quest.
However, the decision when to take off your engagement ring is yours. If you deem it safe to wear it on certain occasions, it is okay to leave it as is.
Buying Jewelry in Dubai?
Dubai is a popular place for diamond shopping. It has ample markets dedicated to diamond and gold jewelry, thus ensuring variety and quality. Due to negligible VAT and heavy customer influx, the prices are insanely economical. Moreover, there is no need to fly to Dubai solely for shopping anymore.
Many online diamond stores in the city provide quality products at reasonable prices. However, you need to ensure that the store provides secure shipping and insurance.
