Let’s start by saying that workers’ comp pension in Washington State is different from what is usually referred to as pension. Job injuries, unfortunately, happen all the time, and if you are injured in such an accident that causes permanent disability that prevents you from working, you may consider filing for L&I pension, which is not pension as associated with retirement benefits. Filing for L&I pension and getting your due may seem easy on paper, but things don’t usually move as expected and you may need help. In this post, we are sharing more on L&I pensions Seattle, Washington  State.

The basics of workers’ compensation pension

For the unversed, workers’ compensation pension is paid directly to the injured worker by Labor & Industries. In other words, if you are injured on the job, you are probably eligible for L&I pension, regardless of whether your employer offers a pension option or not. L&I pension is intended for workers who cannot return to work for diverse reasons, including effects of an industrial injury, age, education or an occupational disease.

Who can get L&I pension?

It is important to understand that L&I pension is not for every worker who has suffered injuries on the job, but for those who cannot return to work or have a regular occupation. Various factors determine the benefits you get from your L&I pension, including your salary at the time of injury, Social Security benefits that you receive, and your marital status. The pension benefits that you get from this system is not taxable, which is a big advantage.

Get a lawyer

Applying & qualifying for L&I pension is not always easy. Your case should be strong enough to prove that you cannot get gainful employment. For getting L&I pension, various factors must be considered, including work experience and age. You need documentation that proves that your condition qualifies for L&I pension and you suffer from permanent total disability. In fact, only a small percentage of people in Washington State, who apply for L&I pension get the same. To avoid mistakes that can impact your benefits, consider talking to an experienced L&I pension attorney. There are some amazing firms that specialize in explaining all benefits of workers’ compensation insurance systems in the state, and their lawyers can guide you further on how to get the benefits that you deserve.

You can check online for a top-rated L&I pension attorney in the state, and consider meeting your lawyer in person before hiring them.
