If you want your home to have a contemporary feel, installing a floating counter is an excellent idea.

Countertops do not require a cabinet for support if they are only a few feet long. This is because they could easily attach to any wall. This could usually be best in applications situated next to the wall, when the kitchen has been remodeled, or when the cabinets do not fit perfectly. It leaves a large gap between the wall and the cabinet uprights.

Floating countertops might even save you time and lots of effort. However, if you are low on budget and trying to save your money while installing, doing it yourself is the best decision. They are heavy and can cause irreversible damage to the counters and the surrounding area. That is why it’s essential to understand how to install and secure a floating countertop.

Amazing Tips to Install Floating Countertops

Here are some best tips to consider when installing these floating countertops:

Preparation

While preparing for the installation of countertops, you need to clean the area as much as possible. Begin by clearing your existing countertops. Obviously, the old ones will go and need to be accessible.

This contains long and short lines of pine or granite for the countertops and a large number of screws, a lead pencil, wood glue, an electric drill, and a stud finder, among other things. So why is it important to purchase the proper and long-lasting countertop brackets?

It will be the foundation of your floating counter; it must be strong and durable enough to support anything placed on it. Furthermore, you must bring a great deal of devotion and hard work. It would be required at some point during the procedure. Also, make sure to evaluate common problems with countertops and find out how to avoid them.

Screw the Countertop Brackets

Make holes in a wall using the electric drill that you’ve picked. You’ll use it to put the screws in place. After this step, screw the brackets in and secure them.

Attach the Countertops

To make the floating countertop stable, you need to attach it to the support. Then, apply a bead of silicone caulk or building glue with the top edge of all cabinet elements that hold the countertops. To apply the glue, tilt a straight countertop up. Seal and gap between backsplash and the wall or along the edges with a clear silicone acrylic caulk.

Instead of trying to tip a metered countertop up, place shims under it. It is easier and less likely to detach the glue joint. The chalk or adhesive will balance the parts and hold them in place without the use of shims. If you’re working on painting the walls and painting the clear caulk, make sure the package description says that it can be painted!

Install the Top

Place the particleboard or plywood on top of the cabinets after leveling and screwing the horizontal bracing to the wall. It should fit against the cabinets flush. Before sliding over the horizontal bracing and tightening against the wall, it should expand across the free space.

From the top, hammer one or two 1/2-inch nails into the horizontal brace. Next, it’s time to put the fascia, laminates, and backsplash in place. If you’re mounting a floating kitchen countertop to the wall without any cabinets, use the same bracing procedures on both sides. Install a horizontal stud to the length of the wall if the countertop does not fit tightly along the length of the wall.

Secure

As you may know, the most important component of installing a floating countertop is fastening it. Both brackets and adhesive will be required. It’s best to secure brackets to the wall studs when placing a countertop in an area where it will back up against a wall. For the countertop support, you might first install horizontal wall cleats to the wall studs. Use drywall anchors if wall studs aren’t available.

You also need to secure the cabinetry for an island because the granite counter cannot be bolted or screwed into, and silicone caulking will help you secure the brackets to the granite.

You may support the countertop you desire without worrying about its weight by using Right On Bracket – hidden countertop brackets. These sturdy brackets are designed for heavy-duty use and keep out of the way to allow more leg area beneath the counter. Learn more about how to install laminate sheets on countertops here.

Tools

You can use an 18-volt drill/driver to attach a floating kitchen countertop to the wall. This type of instrument is both practical and powerful. It will also be able to operate in cramped areas. Use 3-inch wood screws to secure the bracing to the wall. You won’t be able to split a 2-by-4 stud. This way, until a screw, is driven within a 1-inch of the end.

Screws readily pass through the studs, and the tighter they are, the better. To drive screws through even the most difficult bracing, you should exert force and put your weight behind it. Predrilling is fine if it makes you feel more at ease. Use a 3/16-inch drill bit to mark the studs on the brace and predrill what you need.

Conclusion

Finally, countertops are attached to the top of the cabinets. But as time passes, trends in patterns are gradually shifting into a modernized and space-saving style. Floating countertops are designed to address the issues that tiny apartments and houses face. You can also explore more kitchen countertops here.

However, before creating one, remember to double-check the materials you use and ensure that your countertops are sturdy enough to last a long time. Finally, make sure that they are stable. They don’t need to shake every time you intend to use them.
