Not everyone loves to try sports. There are some who want to stay at the comfort of their home, doing nothing other than watching television. There is a lot of entertainment sports can give, hence encouraging people around you especially your kids to participate in any sport is a good idea.
Convincing someone to play sport is challenging, but fortunately, there are effective ways to do so. If you want to encourage your kids to play different sports, here are some of the things you have to keep in mind.
-
Let them watch others play
Start by inviting them to watch the sports game you want them to try, it does not need to be live, you can let them watch over the television. Sometimes, you would never find the interest of doing something unless you watch it.
You can actually see their facial reaction and gestures if they are interested or not. Do not force them to like a game, it should come naturally. There are many sports to try anyway, hence if they seem not interested with the first sport game you ask them to watch, let them watch another one then another until they show interest.
-
Let them try sports you know they may have interest playing
Instead of forcing them to like a specific game, why not choose a sport they may have interest in. For example, if they love cars, why not let them try buggy or car racing. You would not want them to be deprived of things and activities they really want. Choose a sport to introduce them wisely. Know their interest and from there, choose a sport that matches to that.
Do not force them to play a sport that is actually far from their personality and likes.
-
Let them play sports where most of their friends or acquaintances are playing
They can be more interested if they are playing or trying the sport game with their friends. You may want to find a sport game where their friends are involved and encourage your child to join them. Sometimes, it is their companion that can make them interested to try a different game.
If their friends are into basketball, encourage them to play basketball as well. Sure, they would not be interested in a sport specially if they do not know anyone in the group.
-
Give them a break
Do not overwhelm them with the idea that they need to love a specific sport, give them a break, give them time to breathe and do things they really want to do. You cannot force them to play sports, you are there only to encourage them to do so.
If after a few months of trying, he/she is still not interested with any sport you introduced to him/her, give him/her and yourself a break. Sometimes, it is not healthy any more pushing someone to do things that he/she may not be completely interested about.
-
Give them sports gears that they can use with comfort
Once you see the interest in them, do not think twice buying them gears that can make them play the sports they choose more comfortably. If they decide to pursue buggy, find a dune buggy for sale. There are actually a lot of buggies for sale online, there are some that are brand new, while there are some that are second hand. Whatever it is, make sure that it is in good condition as this will start and progress his interest of pursuing this sport.
Buy the gear that he/she needs to motivate him/her further playing the sports he/she chooses.
