Introduction

Can lavender scent calm your nerves? What if you are finding it hard to breathe and you take a blend of coconut and eucalyptus oils and massaged it on your chest? Will it make your breathing a little easier?

Essential oils like eucalyptus and peppermint oil have become wildly popular and are even used as medicines instead of pharmaceutical drugs. And although they tend to be safer than the store-bought alternatives, they are not without some risks. That is why before you resort to using a scented stone, like duftstein or rooted. it is important to keep some things in mind. We have dedicated this entire article to the things you should know first before you try essential oils.

Essential oil dos

  • Read labels

Essential oils, unlike over-the-counter and prescription medications, are not FDA-regulated. The amount of each ingredient in the essential oils varies from one oil variety to another, which is why you must read the fine print before using one. Some manufacturers even dilute essential oils with other ingredients.

We advise studying the different oils and knowing their benefits and risks. Also, make sure you select a trusted brand. If you are not sure, talk to an aromatherapist or your doctor for recommendations.

  • Use carrier oil

Most essential oils are powerful and can even burn the skin if not used properly. If you use pure essential oil, have it diluted with a mild oil, like jojoba, almond, or coconut oil. At the same time, avoid using the oil or any part of the skin that is damaged or broken. Also, make sure that the rooted. stone you use is of the right type.

  • Try a test

Do not slather a large amount of oil over the whole of your skin. Instead, apply it to a small area to see how it will react with the skin. After application, wait for 24 hours to ensure that it doesn’t have any irritating effects before you use it with more freedom.

  • Mind the point of entry

It could be that a certain type of essential oil is safe when it is inhaled. But this does not mean that it is entirely safe. It could be toxic when ingested and the reverse is also true.

Before you ingest any oil, make sure that it is specifically meant for that purpose. Also, check with your general physician to see if it has potential interactions. Do not use edible oils on the skin. If you are asthmatic or allergic, make sure you do not diffuse the oils into the air.

Medicinal benefits of essential oils

Essential oils are incredibly popular and are used widely. However, their ability to treat health conditions is something that is yet to be known. Below we take a look at conditions that can be treated with aromatherapy.

Stress and anxiety

More and more people are turning to alternative treatment methods to try and put an end to their stress and anxiety.

One of these is aromatherapy, and this is supported by some studies. Research shows that the scent of select essential oils, when used with traditional therapy, can treat stress and anxiety.

But the scents of the oils make it impossible to conduct blinded research and eliminate biases. That is why lots of research on the effect of essential oils on relieving anxiety and stress have been inconclusive.

Additionally, the use of essentials to relieve stress has been found to be effective, especially when used during a massage. However, the effects only last as long as the massage. You can also use it with a duftstein or rooted.

Headaches and migraines

Research shows that when a mixture of peppermint and ethanol is dabbed on the forehead of the skin, it relieves headache pain.

Also, recent investigations have found that applying lavender and peppermint oil to your skin can eliminate headaches.

Additionally, research shows that applying a mix of sesame and chamomile oil to your temples may be effective in treating migraines and headaches. This headache relief remedy is a traditional Persian method of treating the problem. However, this is an area that would do with more studies to make any conclusive inferences.

Sleep and insomnia

Scented lavender oil has been proven to improve the quality of sleep in women who just gave birth. It also does the same for heart disease patients.

One study analyzed 15 reviews on the effect of essential oils on sleep. According to most of these studies, merely smelling the oils, more so lavender oil, leads to better sleep patterns.

Reducing inflammation

Inflammatory conditions are another problem that we face most commonly. Fortunately, there is some evidence to suggest that essential oils may offer help in the fight against inflammatory conditions. Some studies have shown that essential oils have anti-inflammatory properties.

In one study done on mice, it was found that ingesting a mixture of oregano and thyme essential oils helped in inducing colitis remission. Also, two studies on rosemary and caraway oils arrived at the same conclusion.

But more studies are still needed to fully understand the anti-inflammatory effects that essential oils have on diseases.

Antibiotic and antimicrobial

The trend of people taking antibiotic medications without a doctor’s prescription has led to bacteria being resistant to these kinds of drugs. This has prompted the research into alternative ways of treating bacterial infections.

Lots of research has been done on essential oils like tea tree oil and peppermint oil to establish their antimicrobial effects. The studies showed some encouraging results.

However, although the results of these studies are interesting, they are still far short of reflecting how the oils impact the inner parts of the body. There is no study proving that a particular kind of essential oil could help treat bacterial conditions in humans.

Conclusion

Many people are using lavender oil or eucalyptus oils to treat a variety of health conditions without any scientific backing. Before you use essential oil to treat headaches or relieve stress, you need to know whether it is effective or not. The good news is that certain types of essential oils may be used to treat health conditions. And while more research is still needed to make more conclusive inferences, early results are incredibly encouraging. With the right duftstein, eucalyptus oil could treat that inflammation that has been plaguing you for years.
