The topic of erectile dysfunction is one that many men would prefer to avoid completely if possible. It is a subject that can be quite hard to speak about, but it is also a great cause of concern for many men. One of the biggest issues that lead men to have difficulty talking about this is the fact that many myths have become associated with ED that is simply not true. These myths, combined with a social stigma that persists around the topic, can often cause men to be reluctant to speak about the issue or undergo treatment. Our goal here is to address five of the most prevalent and damaging myths that are commonly associated with the topic of erectile dysfunction.

Only Older Men Suffer From ED

One of the most common and pervasive myths associated with erectile dysfunction is that it is a condition that only affects older men. The simple reality is that this is not true. Younger men can also suffer from ED. A man’s chances of suffering from erectile dysfunction do indeed increase with age. However, there are many men under the age of 40 who suffer from it and are undergoing medical treatment for the condition.

ED Is Not an Indicator of a Serious Health Problem

Indeed, erectile dysfunction is not itself a dangerous medical condition. The reality is that it is often a strong indicator of more serious underlying medical conditions that need to be addressed. Men who suffer from ED often have underlying health conditions such as heart problems and diabetes. These issues can pose a great risk to one’s health if they are not properly diagnosed and treated. The bottom line is that although erectile dysfunction itself might not be dangerous, it can be harmful to ignore it as it may be an indicator of a far more serious health condition.

ED is an Inevitable Consequence of Getting Older

While it is true that ED is a condition that is more prevalent with older men, it is not an inevitability. It is also a condition that can often be successfully treated so that a man can continue to enjoy an active and enjoyable sex life as he ages. This fact reinforces the importance of clearing up some of these myths associated with the topic of erectile dysfunction.

Suffering From ED Means That You Are Not Attracted to Your Partner

The myth that a man’s erectile dysfunction issues are caused by not being attracted to his partner is another one that needs to be dispelled. The reality is that many factors can cause a man to have difficulty in achieving an erection. Rather than lack of attraction to one’s partner, it is far more likely for ED to be the result of heart issues such as atherosclerosis and high blood pressure. Diabetes is another common medical condition that is linked to erectile dysfunction. Men who suffer from anxiety and depression also frequently report having issues with achieving and maintaining an erection. Certain medications can also cause interactions that lead to ED.

ED Means That You Can Never Achieve an Erection

Among the most inaccurate of all myths surrounding erectile dysfunction is the idea that it means the man can’t achieve an erection at all. As we have noted, there are a lot of different causes that can result in a man experiencing ED. In many of these cases, a man can still achieve an erection some of the time. Other times, he might find it more difficult to achieve and maintain an erection. But the statement that erectile dysfunction is a condition that prevents a man from being able to achieve an erection permanently is simply not true. The severity of ED symptoms varies greatly, and it also differs from one man to the next.
