States and cities across the United States are no longer in full lockdown from the COVID-19 pandemic, but life probably wonβt be back to normal for some time. Still, while many businesses are still closed, hanging out with your friends or attending large gatherings could increase your risk of contracting the virus or transmitting it to others.
It feels like everyone is grounded, and reducing your stress and avoiding boredom is tougher than ever. Fortunately, there are still plenty of ways for you to have fun and relax. Here are several great ideas for you to spice up your life during quarantine.
Spend Some (Virtual) Time with Your Friends
Even though in-person visits with friends should still be put off for a while, you can spend time with them virtually over platforms like Zoom and Google Hangouts. The same goes for the music-streaming service Spotify in which you’re able to listen to the same playlists as your friends, so everyone in the group can take turns as the DJ. This way, youβll be able to see and hear your friends who are also using a webcam and microphone. You can even have a virtual dance party.
Other options include hosting a virtual happy hour. Ladies, if you miss going out and want to dress to the nines, then don that cute little black dress. Heck, why not also do your hair and makeup? While it won’t feel the same as an in-person get-together, you’ll still get to enjoy a few drinks with your friends. The best part? You’ll save a good amount of money and won’t have to tip any servers or bartenders.
Additionally, dressing up and talking to a few people who you don’t live with or see on a regular basis will help maintain and/or improve your mental health and self-esteem. So, turn your happy hour into a wine tasting and make sure to invite plenty of good friends β for both your peace of mind and your and your friends’ entertainment.
Try a New Look
Spending the day lounging in our cushy pajamas and athletic wear may be comfortable, but sticking with a routine where you get dressed every day will help you feel better about yourself. It can also help you wake up to start your day and get more work done.
And since a majority of people aren’t socializing as much as normal, now is a great time to try on some new looks. The options are endless: Style your hair differently, dye it a different color, wear some new makeup, or expand your wardrobe with some new fashions. Of course, youβll have plenty of time to decide whether you like and want to adopt your new look or if you want to keep things the same.
Play More with Your Pet
Quarantine not only has disrupted our everyday lives and routines but it also has affected and had an impact on our beloved pets, who may need a little extra attention. If your pet is damaging furniture or exhibiting other unusual behaviors, they could be bored, anxious or stressed. Giving your pet some additional training and offering them some new toys could solve the problem. For example, experts recommend food puzzle toys for your canine, as they can make eating a fun challenge. Or, you can always try old standbys like teaching them how to play catch or shake hands.
You can also take them for walks more often. Additionally, you can train many animals to walk on harnesses like dogs, and many animals enjoy riding in cars, on bikes or inside backpacks. Getting your pet used to going outside or walking more often may take a while, but youβll both enjoy the extra exercise and time outdoors. If you donβt have a pet, this is an ideal time to rescue an animal in need who can help keep you company.
Managing Your Life During COVID-19 Doesn’t Mean Giving Up on Fun
By spending time with your friends virtually, trying on some new looks, and paying more attention to your pets, you can simultaneously help spice up your life and decrease your anxiety and boredom. And while options may be limited to your home or a nearby park, you donβt have to give up on fun to stop the spread of COVID-19.
