As summer approaches, you’re probably starting to think about how you can make your garden as cozy and inviting as possible. Whether you’re planning on throwing barbecues for your friends or relaxing with your family during the warm summer evenings, there’s no better time than now to start renovating.

By getting organized and starting your garden renovations early in the year, your outdoor space will be ready in time for your summer plans. You can avoid last-minute rushing around and make the most of the sunny weather before winter rolls around once again.

Contrary to popular belief, garden renovations don’t need to be expensive, complicated, or time-consuming. You can completely transform your garden on a limited budget in just a few weeks to create the perfect outdoor area for your needs.

5 Steps for a Full Garden Renovation

Streamlining the renovation process means you can cut costs and create an outdoor space that looks stylish and functional.

There are lots of important steps you can’t miss when you’re redoing the outdoor area of your home. Below, we will cover each of these steps so that you can update your garden just in time for the hot summer months.

1. Create a seating area

You’re going to need somewhere for you, your family, and your guests to relax during the warm summer evenings.

Choose a corner of your garden and use interlocking retaining wall blocks to separate it from the rest of your outdoor space. With retaining wall blocks, you can choose a style and design that you love to enhance the aesthetic appearance of your garden.

Once you’ve built a wall around your chosen area, you can start adding decorative touches to make the area cozy and inviting. You might want to fill the space with comfortable seating and large flower pots.

Consider hanging lights around the fence or along the bottom of your newly built wall to brighten up the area and create a relaxing ambiance. If you’re concerned about your electricity bill, go for solar outdoor lamps.

2. Buy a new garden shed

Purchasing a cedar shed for your garden will provide a space to store all of your tools and equipment out of the way. You can keep your outdoor area clean, tidy, and hazard-free. The shed should fit nicely in your garden without creating clutter or limiting your space.

You should also consider the style and design of your shed to make sure it matches the aesthetics of the rest of your home. Be prepared to pay a few hundred dollars for a basic garden shed. Large study sheds could cost you upwards of $1,000.

3. Mow the lawn

Grabbing your lawn mower might not sound like the most exciting part of renovating your garden, but it’s often necessary to tidy up your outdoor space in time for summer. No matter how modern your garden furniture is or how vibrant your planters are, a messy lawn can make your garden look shabby.

As the weather heats up, you’ll probably need to start mowing your lawn more frequently. Set aside 10 minutes or so each month to mow the grass and keep it in check. Alternatively, hire a professional gardener to do the job for you.

4. Replace or update your patio

If you’ve got a patio in your garden, you’ve got a few extra steps to take when fully renovating your outdoor space. To give your garden a modern appearance and feel, it’s a good idea to replace your patio.

Patio styles and designs are always changing. By placing down new patio boards, you can stay on top of the trends and keep your garden looking great.

If you want to save money, simply adding a lick of painting or a layer of gloss over your existing patio can do the trick. Both paint and gloss offer a protective layer that will keep your patio in good condition throughout the summer. Make sure you clean the patio with a pressure washer before painting it to get rid of dust and debris.

5. Paint the fence

After redoing or painting your patio, turn your attention to the fencing around your garden. A lick of paint can make all the difference to the overall appearance of your outdoor area.

Whether you paint the fence in the same shade as it’s been for the last few years or shake things up and goes for a different tone, you can finish the job in just a day or two. Consider adding a coating of gloss afterward to secure the paint and prevent it from fading in the sun.
