Tips To Keep Your Curly Hair Healthy

Curly hair is beautiful but certainly a hassle to maintain. But there is nothing to worry about if you maintain regular care practices and invest in quality curly hair products.

In this article, I’ll highlight10 quality curly hair tips that you should include in your regular hair routine to keep the spiral-looking hair great than ever.

1-Use the right Products

If you want to maintain healthy hair, you must have to pay attention to the hair products that you use. Regardless of how hard you work on your hair, if you use toxic hair products, you’ll end up disappointed.

If possible, avoid products that contain sulfates (which can strip away natural oils from the hair and scalp), non-water soluble silicones, heavy waxes, and parabens, among others. On the other hand, natural moisturizers, healthy essential oils, and vitamins will keep your curly hair properly moisturized and healthy.

2-Detangle your curls

To maintain and protect your curly hair from damage, it’s important to detangle your hair regularly. Entangled hair may require more effort to detangle, which may disrupt the natural curl pattern and sometimes cause damage.

You can use a wide-tooth comb or fingers to detangle curls – avoid brushing because it may distort the curls. Always remember to comb from the bottom of the hair going up. Combing tangled hair from up to bottom may cause the comb to stick on the way and cause hair breakage, besides disturbing the curls.

3-Tangle-Free Washing

You should always make sure that your hair is tangle-free before washing. Rubbing or scrubbing your hair while shampooing will increase the tangles, and the results will be disastrous for your curls and hair in general.

4-Less washing

Again, washing curly hair too often can dry it out too much, losing its natural beauty. Most hair experts recommend washing the hair about 2 to 3 times a week – with a hydrating shampoo to avoid stripping off your hair’s natural oils.

5-Deed condition often

After shampooing, deep conditioning your hair with the right moisturizing formula – should contain humectants such as glycerin, keratin, silk amino acids, glycol, and quality oils, among other ingredients.

This will help your hair to restore its moisture and strength, mend the damage, add hydration, and give it enough proteins, making it more healthy and manageable. If you use a protein conditioner, it’s essential to rinse it as it could cause hair breakage if left on the hair. If you want to keep the conditioner on the hair, consider applying leave-in conditioners.

6-Don’t wash with hot water

While hot water can help you to get rid of dirt and excess oil trapped in the hair, it’s not always the best way to wash your hair. Hot water washes away the natural oils and moisture from your scalp and hair, leaving your scalp dry and hair frizzy.

Coldwater, on the other hand, locks the moisture in the hair, leaving your scalp hydrated and hair shinier.

7-Dry your hair with care

Blow dryers, curling irons, and flat irons can help to dry your hair, but they are not always the best. Using these thermal tools to dry and straighten your hair will end up drying out and damaging your curly hair.

The best way to dry your hair and still maintain the curls is to pat it with a towel. Just dab a towel over the hair and allow it to soak in the water, and then comb the hair out with a wide comb. If you must diffuse the hair, consider using a heat protectant spray to minimize hair damage.

8-Oil your scalp regularly

If your scalp is not properly cared for, you can’t expect to have healthy hair. Massaging your scalp with essential oils such as coconut oil and castor oil can help grow your hair past shoulder length and add moisture to it, making it easy to maintain curly hair.

9-Trim your hair regularly

If you want to maintain healthy curls, make sure you trim your hair regularly to get rid of split ends- like every 2 to 3 months. You can do it more often, like every eight weeks if you don’t mind the length.

10-Eat clean

What you eat matters as far as your hair is concerned. If you eat better and high-protein foods and fruits, you will be amazed at how shiny and healthy your curly hair will be.

Conclusion

Maintaining healthy curly hair won’t be much of a deal if you can maintain proper hair practices. Keep in mind the tips discussed above, and you’ll be surprised at how amazing and healthy your curly hair will look.
