Although health support is something quite understood and generalized, the aesthetic field sometimes goes unnoticed and is even undervalued by many people. However, aesthetics is something very important for the human being since the beginning of time. Our body image and the aesthetic care of our body greatly conditions our own self-perception of ourselves, often being a true reflection of how we feel and live with the person we are.

In the case of cancer, one of the most common adverse effects is alopecia, commonly known as hair loss. During the chemotherapy process, our entire body is affected in a very aggressive way. Due to the toxicity of the treatment, the cells that make up the skin, mucous membranes, nails and hair are severely affected. That is why your care plays an especially important role during the cancer treatment process.

Focusing on external side effects, we could say that there are two major damage to our body: skin and hair. Although the skin is a fundamental organ and its correct care is very important (yes, the skin is an organ and not a tissue), one of the effects that causes the most impact in cancer treatment is the progressive loss of hair.

Although it is true that each person is a world and analyzes and interprets the different life situations in a unique way, it is common to associate weakness and feel fragile when we lose our hair during the oncological process. Alopecia can cause a very significant loss of identity, but a headband wig can solve the problems posed by it.

Next we will try to explain what hair prosthesis consists of, the different types that we can find and the proper maintenance that should be given to each of them. It should be noted that this guide, although it tries to be as complete and functional as possible, does not replace the work of a professional. We advise that, if in doubt, it is best to contact a professional and discuss your particular case, for example before buying one of these cheap lace front wigs.

Wig types

Before we start talking in more detail about wig maintenance, we must first know the types of wigs or hair prostheses that we can find.

As a summary, we can mainly divide the types of wigs into three types:

    Made of natural hair.

    Synthetic hair.

Hybrid or mixed wigs (60% natural hair and 40% synthetic hair).

Depending on the type of hair prosthesis we are talking about, its maintenance will change, having different care guidelines depending on the type of fiber. We understand that at first this may seem a bit complex. That is why, if you do not know what type of prosthesis best suits your needs, it is best to contact a professional.

Maintenance of natural hair wigs

Today, there are many human hair wigs afterpay on the market, but people are sometimes confused of maintaining the wigs. The maintenance of oncological natural hair wigs consists mainly of washing, moisturizing and drying the hair of the same. The most advisable thing is that maintenance is carried out in a specialized center. However, this maintenance can also be carried out at home, following a series of recommendations and always with the appropriate products.

Synthetic hair wig maintenance

The maintenance of oncological synthetic hair wigs varies with respect to natural hair wigs. A synthetic hair wig has the advantage that it is easy to maintain and can be done at home, but it is important to know how to do it. If not done correctly, it can get damaged, which would lead us to have to buy a new one.

Although many of the care guidelines are the same, a fundamental difference must be taken into account: we must NOT apply heat to oncological synthetic hair wigs under any of the cases.

As we have already seen, depending on the type of wig we have, its maintenance and care will vary. Depending on whether the fiber of our prosthesis is natural or synthetic, we can apply a series of guidelines or we should avoid them. In the case of hybrid wigs, the ideal is to follow the advice of a synthetic wig, since a good percentage of its fibers are. Therefore, applying any source of heat is not a good idea.
