Do you have a large garden and feel overwhelmed about how to look after it?

Don’t worry; you can manage a large green space by yourself with a few simple tricks, which don’t have to cost the earth and will also up the value of your home at the same time.

Want to know what they are? Read on to find out!

Step 1: Get The Right Tools

To help you maintain a large garden, you need the right tools.

This can include riding mowers, heavy-duty shovels, spades, and forks, as well as investing in some aeration tools to help prevent soil from becoming compacted and hindering plant growth.

There is little to no point in trying to mow a large garden with a push mower or trying to dig up excess heavy soils with a poor-quality shovel or fork. So, do your research and get high-quality tools that will have a long life, helping you tend to your own private slice of heaven.

Step 2: Create a Plan

If you have bought a home that has a large garden, it may be worth calling in a planner to help you break the space up. This will make it more manageable, as well as highlight areas that may need more attention than others.

This also gives you the chance to be creative with garden design; many people opt for placing fencing through their garden, as well as hedges and bushes, to create barriers between the garden segments.

Step 3: Look Into Soil Health

Soil health is a crucial part of garden care, especially if you have a larger garden that will need more time to tend to.

Poor soil can result in a patchy, brown lawn, as well as plants that wilt or fail to thrive. So, invest in an at-home soil testing kit and, if needed, look into getting fertilizers added to the soil to bring the pH to the right levels. This will keep issues like dying plants to a minimum and will also simplify lawn care.

Step 4: Water Systems Are a Must-Have

Many people who have larger gardens opt to have irrigation or water systems put in. This ensures that all areas of the garden will get watered without you needing to do it by hand.

You will likely need to call in a plumber to attach the system to your home’s water supply, but once it is installed, you can tick off the task of watering your garden for as long as you live in that home.

Step 5: Growing Veg? Use Raised Beds!

Many people with a larger garden want to dedicate some of the space to growing vegetables or herbs.

For this, the best option is to invest in raised beds. They may seem like a large initial cost but having raised beds for your home-grown food allows for better quality control of the soil, as well as the area being easier to weed. It will also help you to keep pests at bay.

If you are an older person or have mobility issues, raised beds will also mean less bending over and stretching, which will make both the planting of the veg and the harvesting easier.
