When you feel happy, truly, deeply happy, you know how wonderful that is. You’ll understand why it is so important to find your own personal happiness in life, and why you must work on being happy as much of the time as possible. How you do this will differ from person to person since everyone has their own unique style and their own ideas of what it means to be happy. This might mean you need to experiment a little to find what it is that makes you smile; alternatively, you might already know exactly what you need to do.
If you fall into the latter category, that’s great – you can go off and do what makes you happy whenever possible and feel the positive energy that comes from that. If you are in the former category, you might be a little more hesitant. What can you do that is going to make your life a happier one? If you’re not sure, here are some ways you might want to try to find your own personal happiness once and for all.
Give to Charity
Sometimes it’s not what you have that is going to make you happiest, it’s what you give away. This is why many people love to give to charity, and it’s what makes them truly happy.
Giving to charity could consist of several different things. One way to do this would be to literally declutter your home and give away any unwanted items to those who need them more than you do. Not only will other people be benefitting from this, which is sure to make you happy, but it will help you to live a happier life too – a cluttered home is not comfortable and is full of items that don’t serve to do anything other than remind you of the past. Although it’s good to learn lessons from the past, continually living there is not something that will bring happiness.
You can also raise money for charity by doing sponsored walks, runs, cycle rides, and more. Sometimes these will be official, and sometimes you can gather your own sponsorship money and do it yourself, sending the money to the charity of your choice once you have collected it. To commemorate what you did and to encourage others to do the same, you can even organize a brick fundraiser and have the completed donations installed somewhere prominent. Although charity isn’t something you should boast about, it is good to show others what can be done.
Be with People Who Make You Smile
You might be the kind of person who likes to be alone most of the time, or you might prefer to be in someone else’s company. Whichever you are, being with other people is actually good for your happiness, so it is going to be beneficial if you try, even if it is only once in a while.
The key to being around people and being happy as opposed to being in a crowd and feeling crushed and miserable is that the people you are with should be those who make you smile. These friends and family members are the ones you need to spend time with if you want to find your own personal happiness and not become lonely (which is bad for your physical and mental health). What you do with your friends is again going to be your choice; you can stay in, and binge watch TV shows, or you can go out for a meal in a restaurant, or maybe go out dancing all night. You can do whatever it is that is going to make spending time with your loved ones even more special.
Imagine the Best
There is no denying that life can sometimes be upsetting. There can be negative people and events taking place that bring us down and take away our happiness. For this not to happen, and to find your own personal happiness again, you need to imagine the best-case scenario as much as possible. This doesn’t mean ignoring anything negative that needs to be dealt with, but it does mean looking to the future with a positive stance rather than assuming nothing is going to get better or make you happier.
This can be a difficult thing to do, but you can start small and work up. Have a goal in mind, and it doesn’t matter what it is as long as you work towards it, keep thinking of it, and make decisions in your life that get you closer to it.
Another way to imagine the best in life is to look for the good. Even if negative situations, there should be something you can find that will make you think positively. It can be the smallest thing, but finding it, accepting it, and using it as a catalyst to move forward is essential.
Don’t Do Things for Others
The idea of not doing things for others might, at first, sound harsh. However, we don’t mean that you shouldn’t help other people (especially if that is something that makes you happy); we mean that the decisions you make should be made to give you happiness and not made for other people. This would include decisions about:
- Where you live
- What car you drive
- What school you go to
- Whether to have kids or not
- What job you have
- What hobbies make you smile
These decisions must always be made with your own life in mind, not someone else’s. Of course, listening to advice and other people’s opinions can be helpful, especially if they are well-meaning. Still, the ultimate decision should always be about what makes you happy; otherwise, you will have regrets.
Find A Great Hobby
Sometimes life can be a little dull. You might love your job, but even then, the routine can be dry, and without something to change things up and look forward to, you might find that you start to dislike the things you once loved. This is why a hobby is a good idea. Finding a great hobby that makes you smile and keeps you occupied can make a massive difference to your life.
Whatever you have an interest in, there is sure to be a hobby that will suit you. Once you start to research this, you will find plenty of things you can do that are going to make you happy. Remember, just because you don’t think you’re good at something that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy it as a hobby. If you love painting or pottery or cycling or collecting stamps or anything else that brings you joy, you should do it. Not every hobby has to be monetized, and if you do it just for fun, you’ll get a lot more out of it.
