Hair Care Basics: How Often Should You Cleanse Your Hair?

Getting a hair wash schedule right is often a challenging task for us. Washing your hair too often results in fragile and dry hair. Your hair will lose moisture and get extremely dry, which will lead to hair fall. If you don’t shampoo your hair often, your locks will get super oily, accumulating dirt and pollutants.

Either way, your hair will end up getting damaged from the buildup of debris on your scalp. If you are struggling with the hair wash schedule, you have come to the right place! This article will cover when to shampoo your hair, how often you must wash the strands, and what products you must use for your scalp. Let’s get started.

Consider Your Hair Type

Depending on your hair texture and hair type, you may need different hair care products to provide your scalp with the nutrition and attention it deserves. Those with thicker locks can avoid hair wash for a few days, but you will need to wash your hair frequently if you have thin tresses.

Thin hair tends to get oily and dirty if you leave them unwashed for days. Similarly, straight hair needs regular washing. Curly hair, however, doesn’t need frequent washing. If you have silky, thin, and straight hair, you need to wash your hair frequently. People with curly, coarse, and thick tresses can wash their hair twice a week to retain the scalp’s health and glow.

People with dry hair need to wash their tresses at least twice a week, while those with oily hair type need to wash the strands daily. For those who have normal hair, i.e., your hair does not feel dry or oily, you can wash your scalp according to your convenience. You can buy a natural shampoo and give your hair the basic wash. The natural oil present in your shaft will do the rest of the job.

Not every occasion requires a hair wash, and you could go longer without washing your hair if you have normal hair or thick tresses. Dry shampoo works wonders for all hair types. It maintains the moisture in your hair, absorbs dirt, and prevents sebum production. It will absorb sebum and oil from your scalp, leaving you with fresh smelling and clean strands. Check out the variety of hair products available at My Haircare & Beauty to keep your hair refreshed between washes, ensuring a consistent and vibrant look.

Train Your Hair to Produce Less Oil

This might sound a little weird, but it is a universal formula that works for all hair types. If you do not want to regularly wash your oily and thin tresses, consider switching to 2-3 washes every week. Perhaps, that’s what you need to give your hair the training it requires for oil and sebum production. The lesser you expose your hair to chemical-rich hair products, the healthier it will look. However, do not go too long without hair wash, as the buildup of oil and dirt can make your hair super brittle.
