MS in Canada is indeed a very good idea being the home to some of the world’s finest universities, Canada has been a major player in higher education. More than 6,42,000 overseas students visited the country for its multicultural diversity and the unadulterated academic excellence of its universities. Canada renders the best cosmopolitan experience overall. Among other factors, the country offers affordable academic programs, simpler application procedures, and more opportunities to get permanent residency.

MS in Canada – Top Universities

As per the Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2020, 7 best universities for MS in Canada rank among the top 200 universities worldwide. Overall, around 30 Canadian institutions are counted as the best in the world.

MS in Canada Specialization

Pursuing MS in Canada offers a variety of fields of study such as, Medicine, Information, Management, Law, Pharmacy, Nursing, Architecture, Engineering, Applied Science, and more. All programs are, generally, 1-2 years long. These programs are course-based or research-based or both. Course-based programs also called professional courses, are mostly shorter in duration and more flexible.

Students have to study a set of subjects and acquire a degree. Research-based programs, on the other hand, start with some coursework and then focus on independent research formulating a dissertation. Such degrees give expertise in the chosen field of study.

MS in Canada – Cost to Study

Compared to other countries like the US, the UK, or even Australia, academic programs like MS in Canada are cheaper. As per Statistics Canada, postgraduate tuition fee for overseas students on an average is around 17,744 CAD (in 2019-20). Given below is a list suggesting the average tuition fees in arts and humanities in some important Canadian universities (all in CAD).

The major expense accounts for the tuition fees. However, to sustain abroad to study MS in Canada, there are additional expenses too.

This is a rough estimate of the additional monthly expenses totaling to 1,555 CAD(excluding other miscellaneous expenses).

Application process

The academic year in most universities starts in September. Applications are accepted until January. For early consideration for MS in Canada, students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

MS in Canada: Eligibility

To be eligible for admissions in MS in Canada, the applicant must have

Many universities in particular provinces, for instance, Quebec, use French as their language of instruction. Admissions in such universities may require the student to sit for a French proficiency exam like TEF or DELF. The minimum scores for these tests may vary from university to university.

Documents required: Students have to submit the following documents for admissions to MS in Canada.

Study Visa: Students have to apply for a study permit. It is valid through the duration of the course applied for and an extra 90 days. This period is given to allow students to apply for an extension of their stay or prepare to leave Canada. A study permit will enable students to continue to study or even work on-campus or off-campus. Fee: 150 CAD.

Scholarships to study MS in Canada

Scholarships are applied right at the time of application. There are several scholarship schemes offered by governments, universities, and private organizations and trusts. Few have been accounted as follows,

Other financial aid options to study MS In Canada

Education loans– Various banks provide student loan facilities to study abroad. There are many schemes specially designed for students who want to study in Canada, for instance, ICICI Canada GIC program  HDFC Credila, , SBI Ed Vantage Education loan, and more. These schemes have pretty good coverage.

Work Permit: After completing the graduate program, students have to apply for a Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) allowing them to gain work experience in Canada. This will also help them become permanent residents of the country. The duration of a PGWP won’t be longer than the study permit of the student. It is valid for a minimum of 8 months and a maximum of 3 years. Fee: 150 CAD + 100 CAD (other work permit holder fee).

Job Prospect after MS in Canada

All necessary procedures are pretty simple. After getting the work permit, one can easily get the best jobs in Canada. Scope and salaries may differ depending on the course studied, time, and place of employment. As a matter of fact, postgraduate students have more acceptability and are paid higher compared to the undergraduate ones.

Computer Science graduates are the highest-paid in Canada. With an entry-level salary of 24480 CAD yearly, students get the highest package of an average of 68280 CAD annually. Top employers include CGI Group Inc., IBM Canada Ltd., Ericsson Inc., Amazon.com Inc.

Recruits join offices in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, Calgary. The public health sector has varied employment options making it the third-largest industry in this regard. Law graduate students are among the highly demanded profiles.
