Fashion changes quickly, especially the aptly named ‘fast fashion’, and quite frankly it’s boring.
It’s about time that people stop conforming to fashion as if it’s some sort of socially enforced uniform. It’s time to be bold; it’s time to be you. That means wearing what you want to wear, whether it’s in, out, or hasn’t been seen before.
There are a good few ways to make the way you dress your own, but what’s key is staying true to yourself. Whether that’s bright and colourful, or more muted and subtle, what matters is that you feel comfortable in your clothes.
So, how do you go about finding your own aesthetic? Well, it’s simple, try and fail until you succeed. What’s currently in fashion may be right for you, so wear that, but don’t move on to the next trend if you don’t think it’s the right look for you.
Once you find your look, stick with it and develop it in your own way, because after all; it is your look. Not sure how? Well here are just a few pointers.
D.I.Y
Invest a little time and effort into the clothes that you wear, whether that’s tie-dying (or regular dying), cropping tops, or tapering jeans.
Nothing makes your clothes more unique than actual investment into making them look like yours, so it’s worthwhile.
It’ll allow you to wear, for example, a plain raglan in a way that’s your own, whether that’s through new colours, some pins, or something else that you come up with that makes it feel special.
To The Core
Want people to really stop and appreciate your aesthetic? Make it comprehensive, right to the bottom layer.
If you take off a shirt and have a bland white tee underneath, that could compromise your look. You want to look great wherever you are, whether that’s all layered up in the snow, or in the summer sunshine.
You might even want to consider making your look flow right to the base layer, in which case, it may be worth looking for some underwear that matches the rest of your look – no more plain 3-packs from the supermarket!
Make it ‘You’
It’s really important that a look is your own, so if you aren’t keen on flared trousers, don’t wear them. By all means, try new things, but if you know something isn’t for you, don’t force yourself into it.
At the end of the day, people will notice how comfortable you look in your own clothes, and in that sense, something that went out years ago might look just right on you.
Sometimes Simple Is Bold
Remember, this is about what you like, so if that’s a plain white tee, some blue jeans and some tan boots go for that.
In the ever over-complicating world of fashion, sometimes a plain look is what’s needed to stand out.
At the end of the day, it’s what makes you happy when you look in the mirror before going out.
