All You Need  On How To Take Care Of Your Deep Fryer Oil Filter

Keeping your deep fryer oil filter clean means having healthy fryer oil. Or at least, almost debris-free and spotless, making food taste good and crisp. Besides getting rid of particles that may affect the taste of your next cuisine, filtering is an approach towards extending your food’s shelf life.

For these reasons, learning how to properly and professionally take care of your deep fryer filter is crucial.

Oil And Oil Filtration Tips

 

  1. Oil Change

The first thing to understand about a deep fryer oil filter is that the oil itself has to be changed at specific intervals to maintain it at its optimal quality. According to experts, changing fryer oil between 8 to 10 times of usage per cooking cycle is the ideal setup.

  1. Straining Schedule

There seems to be no specific recommendation as to how many times you should strain deep fryer oil in a day. If your company uses a deep fryer filter machine almost round-the-clock, straining oil too frequently may slow down kitchen operations. And inevitably, front of house operations, too.

Many restaurants that hustle on a twenty-four-seven basis think that oil changing is not a top priority. Your team can schedule oil straining at the end of every day, or at the first half of the day. This is a good and highly practical approach towards oil-straining.

Having said that, if your chefs see fit to strain deep fryer oil more frequently than the above-mentioned, it will be completely at their discretion. For others, the mere presence of debris in cooking oil is enough to warrant replacing the latter with a new batch.

  1. Oil Storing

How about storage? What are expert tips on how to observe this correctly? There are two approaches to this. First, you can leave oil inside the deep fryer itself but only for short bouts of time. Second, longer periods of storage will have to be done outside of the frying machine.

With regards to leaving it in the fryer temporarily, ensure that the oil itself is free of cooking and/or food debris. Otherwise, even letting it stay in the fryer’s oil receptacle can quickly affect its physical composition. So much so as to affect food taste once it’s reused.

Speaking of long-term depositing of the oil in oil fryer filter machines, store it in an area furthest from light and heat sources. Oil spoilage occurs when the product is frequently exposed to light and heat. Hence, keep it in a cool, dark corner, preferably in an area with a near-constant temperature(i.e. not too humid, etc.)

  1. The Ideal Oil Fryer System

There’s no doubt that a frying oil filter machine is an excellent alternative to manual straining. What we want to point out here is knowing what type will best fit your commercial kitchen needs. There are generally two categories here: manual and electric.

Much like how teppanyaki plates are not suitable for every dining table and room setup, oil filter devices are to follow a certain level of customization for kitchen operation. Especially when talking about their exact function in parallel to kitchen requirements.

Manual filtration machines are hand-powered while their electric cousins work on electricity. Understanding the type of filtration apparatus you use will help you draft a better strategy for maintaining it. Ask your deep fryer oil filter supplier for specifications about these.

Cleaning Tip: The Golden Rule

 

Disassembling And Reassembling

One common mistake that restaurants tend to commit is cleaning the filtration machine as is. This leaves nooks and crannies thoroughly uncleaned and worse, water can get through tight corners without being wiped dry as it should. This is when mildew and mould start to build up.

There’s no complex science behind cleaning and maintaining fryer filtration equipment. Be sure to properly disassemble the machine for a thorough cleaning and reassemble once dry.

In addition to this, when the machine is still seated on the fryer, avoid pumping a cleaning solution (or even water) through the filter. Doing so can wear the machine down faster than average.
