How to fix a broken car lock
Sometimes the lock may seem broken from the outside but you need to fix this from the inside. So, first you take the panel off, remove all the screws and pull the inner handle cover off. After snapping off the cover the whole thing will slide out. Then take a little blade and cut the plastic sheeting off (you can tape it back on later). From the door handle, you take the bolds off by using a range. Then the door handle pops off from the outside with the lock. Then carefully install the new lock into the socket. In this case somebody may have wanted to steal your car, for that you don’t need to replace the whole barrel itself.
Car Lock Replacement
In this case, if your door lock entirely gets damaged by excessive use, you need to replace the whole system. First, open the door and remove the door panel. Use a screwdriver and remove the side mirror cover and armrest. Remove the screws behind armrests. Remove the trim from around the lock snip. After removing the external components and screws, pry the door panel off. then remove the door’s handle by sliding it forward. Then push the door handle through the door panel. Then disconnect the electric window switches by pushing it up. Inside the door panel, you will see the key barrel which needs to be removed. From that, remove the 10mm bolt and then remove the lower window track. Remove the sticker. Then remove another two 10mm bolts. Then the key barrel will be easily removed. Get a new key barrel and install it. But test the barrel before installing. Then put everything back in reverse way.
Now you have a messy but new key barrel installed. For better work use a helping hand. In between this, remember a locksmith is just one call away.
What to do if the boot lock doesn’t work?
Open the trunk and locate the lock striker. The striker is with the latch’s assembly hooks. With recurrent use, it may get loosened. Then remove the inner plastic or rubber coverings. Take a screwdriver and tighten the mounting bolts/ screws. If this doesn’t fix the problem, we move onto checking its latch assembly. Take a screwdriver and push it down to unlock the latch. then try to open latch. To avoid this happening again, lubricate the component to fix the problem.
If this also doesn’t work, call in a mechanic or try out some YouTube videos in case you are unable to use a helping hand.
Conclusion
These guidelines are only applicable in primary operations. But with practice, it will be easier for you to fix your car locks like changing a tire. Harsh weather can take down your trunk and door locks. When you least expect, these problems may occur. So, keep a toolbox in your car for safety. But don’t damage your car entirely to save a few bucks.
