As 2020 comes to an end – finally! – you are no doubt looking forward to a fresh start in the New Year. If most of 2020 has been spent sat in your living room due to coronavirus lockdowns, you might understandably be getting sick of looking at the same old cushions and wallpaper. However, it is easy to refresh your living room ready for a new start. Here are four easy updates for your living room in time for the New Year.
1. Update your curtains
Curtains are a great style piece for your living room, as they insulate the room against drafts and outside noise, as well as providing a touch of glamor. However, curtains are very much affected by current trends, and as such, the ornate brocade curtains you buy one year could very well look dowdy and old fashioned a few years down the line.
For a timeless look, why not seek out curtains in a block color that complements your room? Alternatively, you could forego curtains entirely and instead install blinds or shutters for a modern, low maintenance look.
2. Paint your walls
If you’re tired of looking at the same old walls, give them a fresh lick of paint for an easy and quick update. Choose a color that goes with the scheme of your living room to ensure that it blends in with the rest of your décor.
You could even use wall stencils if you would like something a bit more decorative than plain walls. These enable you to bring neat, hand-painted artistry to your room without the risk of botching the design. They are available in a number of stunning designs to suit any taste. Why not try Moroccan style medallions for a boho look or neat florals for a classic style?
3. Add some rugs
If you are bored of bare floorboards or a gray carpet, you could inject a bit of personality into your living room by adding some rugs. These are a particularly good décor idea if you live in a rented home, as you don’t have to ask your landlord for permission to recarpet the room and you can take the rugs with you if you move. Rugs come in a variety of styles to suit every taste: you could go for an ultra-modern geometric rug or keep it classic and bohemian with a Persian rug.
4. Add throws and cushions
Your sofa is probably one of the most used items of furniture in your entire house, and as such, it can soon look tired due to wear and tear. Add some throws and cushions to brighten up a drab sofa. As well as looking stylish, they can be used for added comfort and warmth during weekend Netflix binges, and can be easily cleaned should they become dirty. Additionally, as throws and cushions are relatively inexpensive, you can easily replace them if you fancy a décor reset.
