Can you DIY it – Water Damage Restoration

Water damage can occur whenever there’s a plumbing issue, property roofing has been damaged due to wind or hale, or in any general case where there’s been water contacting a surface, it should not have. With minor cases like sink leaking or other situations, it’s quite easy to consider dealing with it yourself – but it might not be that great of an idea in the long run – here’s why.

It’s not always possible to DIY and here’s why you should go for professional help

The reasons for water damage occurring on your property might be elusive. This is especially true for large properties which have a large plumbing infrastructure with numerous joints which are a weak spot in the system. Once you detect the issue and the origin of water intrusion in the property it should be immediately repaired.

The issues with DIY repairs are not in the ability but in the certification of the labor. Since it will serve as insurance protection, unqualified labor may serve as an argument for the insurance company to deny insurance coverage – so any maintenance and repairs must be carried out by a professional.

Many companies are qualified and certified at water damage restoration which aids you in such cases. Depending on the originating reason for water damage on your property, other qualified labor must be employed like a plumber or a construction contractor.

How would DIY water damage look like

The main goal of water damage restoration is to remove any moisture from the premise and to restore any furniture, flooring, walling, wallpaper, and other parts of the property. First and foremost, one must remove all water and then extract any moisture that has seeped through the property.

This requires powerful water extraction engines which are not as readily available, a hairdryer will not suffice. The second part of water damage extraction is to segment each affected area into manageable peaces – in general, it takes time to carry out and proper procedure must be followed.

A restoration, depending on the degree of the damage, might take a couple of days or a week with professional help. Doing it on your own might take longer and there’s no guarantee for a job well done, whereas a hiring company gets you a guarantee for a job well done, with 100% water extraction and mold removal if the need arises.

What about the price

The price of such a service really depends on the conditions, the extent of the damage, and the magnitude to which water has affected the property. Waiting will only make matters worse, with conditions for mold growth and further decay of wood and other organic surfaces – don’t wait, it will cost you more and turn the restoration into a rebuild.

A great way to reduce the price of the service is to use your insurance provider as coverage or to book additional services, like indoor air quality testing, or mold and mildew removal. Booking additional services from a provider not only gets you a more comprehensive restoration but also saves you some money in the long run.
