You’re looking for the stapler. You’ve found the pins, but the pile of memos and tiny objects is driving you insane, making you want to flip the table only because you can’t find the darn stapler! Care to identify the problem? Your desk looks like the after-effects of a massive 9+ earthquake on the Richter scale!

Believe it or not, clutter can influence the way you work. If you lack organization, everything competes for your attention, making it impossible to work. Maybe you’ve procrastinated a lot because you’re somehow attached to everything that’s causing mayhem in your workspace; whatever the reason, clutter has to go!

It’s unexpected how fast your office can go from flawlessly organized to a hot mess. A week of hard work and focus can actually destroy the essence of your office. With a sweet organization system and smart decluttering, you can make your space functional, comfortable, and above all, productive!

Let’s cut to the chase: here are the seven best tips for decluttering your office and getting organized.

  1. Declutter, but slowly!

While we all demand some serious organization from time to time, don’t let it get excessive. If something wasn’t taking up a lot of your time in the first place, it probably doesn’t need to be thrown away. Realize what’s “good enough” and what’s “got to go” while organizing. Perfection can be an incredible detriment to efficiency, and you don’t need to forget why you began decluttering in the first place.

  1. Remove and Recycle

Another step to be clutter-free is to take everything off of your desk. As you begin to remove the items, toss the garbage items into the bin. The receipt for your lunch, some old Post-It note reminders, and a seminar pamphlet from two years ago can all reside in the recycling bin.

Yes, this is a pretty standard step; still, it doesn’t take much for one to get distracted and forget to discard something as simple scraps of paper.

Furthermore, if you’ve got a few other items rather than the usual chairs and desks in your office near that seem useless, but you don’t want to throw them away, put them in the office store. Got no space? Well, this would be the perfect excuse to rent a unit from Lakeside Storage. 1. Learn to Hide Stuff

When traditional shelves become old-school, you have a few other options. For instance, a pegboard is a popular and effective way to hide your routers, cables, and other devices on the back of your workspace. You can also hide other stuff on the back of your monitor/printer or use magnets to mount items to just about everything. Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

  1. Buy Supplies

With a unique configuration in mind, it’s time to buy whatever bags, bins, or other supplies you need to declutter your office. Functionality is your goal, but don’t forget to explore. Fun textures and colors can make a difference in your mood and your reaction towards everything.

Besides that, don’t forget about your personal stuff, such as your jacket, and buy some necessary, day-to-day disinfecting supplies as well. Also, try to label everything! Essentially, a notebook, your laptop, a few pens deserve a coveted desk space.

  1. Discover Your Trouble Spots

It is difficult to look at your workspace and identify how disorderly it is. But if you take a few pictures, you might be surprised – from a particular perspective, clutter will blow up on your face in a way the real world doesn’t allow. Therefore, take pictures if you can’t identify your clutter spots.

  1. Give a “Flow” to Everything

Now that you’ve figured out what stays, you need to decide a place for it.  Since you want quick access, knowing where to put your selected stuff is essential. For starters, organize your desk drawers – the things you frequently use must go into the closest drawer. If you use a lot of paper, equip your desk with a left-to-right workflow – important stuff goes on the left, the not-so-important things on the right. That way, you can create more space for the stuff that needs to be put on your desk rather than in drawers.

Furthermore, if your drawers return to a “cluttered” state, an empty cereal box can make for an excellent impromptu organizer. Try it, and you’ll believe it!

  1. Commit to Everyday Cleaning

You’ve done a commendable job by getting this far, but unfortunately, your journey doesn’t end here. In fact, it is only the beginning. You’ve got a good thing going on, and you must keep it that way. As you know, clutter can provoke anger in you, and before you know it, you’ll be back to the jailed feeling if you don’t take action.

Take a stand; spend a few minutes decluttering your workspace every day. We recommend you don’t leave decluttering for Mondays, instead, have it done by Friday. The reason? Because you want to start your Mondays fresh!

Conclusion: No Clutter, No Problem!

Congratulations! You can see your workspace now!

An office is more than a workspace. Workers spend most of their time in this shared space. Not only can its organization influence physical spotlessness, but it can also affect productivity as well. That said, it is significant to consider how you can maintain the freshness. Thankfully, these tips can get you there.

Moreover, do not eat at your desk or buy additional containers or shelves to hold more stuff. Practice the “deal with it” mentality, and you’ll become more organized than ever.
