Employee onboarding is a strategic method of bringing new employees to the organization and providing them information, training, and mentoring throughout the onboarding process.

This process begins from the acceptance of the offer and continues throughout an initial couple of weeks or months. The employee onboarding process is the first impression a new employee will have of your organization. Thus, the requirement for an effective and efficient onboarding is imperative.

Employee onboarding is the process in which new joiners are included and introduced to the organization. It includes activities that let the new employees finish the initial new joiner’s onboarding activities, and learn about the organization and its mission, vision, policies, culture, and values.

Organizations use various free employee onboarding software in the beginning to check the functionality and usage of the software and then decide whether it is worth investing in or not.

While a few HR managers consider the employee onboarding process as simple as the new hire paperwork, a lot of technically savvy team members think differently about the meaning of employee onboarding. Processes that fall within the onboarding period include the orientation program, plans, setting up performance materials, and a feedback loop segmented under the definition of onboarding.

Employee onboarding involves the following

  • New hire orientation – Paperwork and basic introduction to policies and procedures.
  • Introduction to key members of the organization – Direct Managers, Executives, and peers.
  • Training and learning – Job training, shadowing and mentoring.

Why is Employee onboarding important?

  • Candidates would make their decision to stay or leave based on their first-day experience.
  • Many HR leaders believe new hires decide to stay or leave based on their experience in the first six months of employment.
  • To help the new employee kick start their job role and responsibilities.

Five ways to provide a great onboarding experience to your new hires:

There are many ways to create a positive onboarding experience for new hires. You can make employees feel like they belong to your company from day one. Keep things as simple and engaging as possible, your communication and collaboration tools will help a lot.

1.       Assist the new hires to speak the corporate language

Every organization has its unique corporate language. Whether it’s short forms or specific terms they use while communicating with each other. It’s necessary to help all new employees feel like they are speaking the same language as their peers, thus, helping them with the resources to help them get up to speed with your company-specific lingo.

2.       Make the memorable first day

Introduce your new hires to the other team members on the first day. One of the biggest questions new hires have in mind when they join is “who are their colleagues?” Eliminate the hesitation and anxiety by introducing your new hires to their peers as soon as they start. Even a bit can surprise the new hires; maybe a simple text message will be wonderful to make your new employees feel welcome.

3.       Nail the essential of structure onboarding

We also understand boring paperwork can make the onboarding process tiresome, which is a part of the process of onboarding new hires. You can prepare a to-do list for the tasks, for both current employees and new employees for your onboarding program and you will be able to follow the paperwork for onboarding new hires properly.

4.       Examining everything for a better experience

The framework is everything when a new employee begins working, but making sure they are well equipped with the information and knowledge they require to succeed is simple as might sound.

5.       Give your new employees mad swag

Giving your new hires a warm welcome can be a great way to introduce your office culture.

Organizations should continuously experiment with different ways to onboard new hires and offer them the best onboarding experience. Creating an effective onboarding program will also encourage collaborative learning that will result in higher productivity.
