Apex Legends is a popular FPS battle royale game from Respawn, published by EA. The fast-paced and often frenzied action of Apex can be experienced by nearly any gamer. There are system requirements on the PC—more on that in a bit—but the minimum requirements to play the game on PC are pretty easy to come by.
If you’re craving to jump into the King’s Canyon arena for a round of the Apex Games, the requirements aren’t nearly as hefty as many other games. Respawn has structured their battle royale game so that as many players as possible can dive in and enjoy the game.
For Consoles
For consoles, it’s pretty short and sweet—have an internet connection and an online console subscription. That’s it. For Xbox players, all that’s needed is Xbox Live Gold, for PlayStation players you need PS Plus, and for Nintendo players you need Nintendo Switch Online. An internet connection is required for all three consoles to play Apex Legends.
Apex is a free download, so there’s no payment needed to install it. Respawn doesn’t require an online console subscription, the console makers do. Microsoft requires Xbox Live to play games online and Sony requires the PS Plus for PlayStation.
Of course, Apex Legends will run smoother on the Xbox Series X or the PlayStation 5—as those are the highest quality consoles on the market currently—but the game runs just fine on an Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox One S, or Xbox Series S.
The same holds for PlayStation gamers. The PS5 will run the game the best, but the PS4 and PS4 Pro will do the trick as well.
As for the Nintendo Switch, there is only one version of the console—the Switch. There is the Switch Light, but it’s the same gamepad just without the dock to connect to a TV and display the screen on it.
Minimum System Requirements for PC
Not too shabby. I’ve had my system for a while now—a few years–and my system specs are better than these low-end requirements. Respawn has done a nice job of optimizing Apex to ensure that as many people as possible can play their game. That should be expected, especially with a free-to-play game.
That’s a stark contrast to something like Marvel’s Avengers that requires 16GB of RAM, at least 110GB of disk space, a GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 480, and an Intel Core i7. Those requirements are astronomical when compared to the minimum requirements to play Apex.
Recommended System Requirements
As always, the recommended system requirements are quite a bit more intensive.
The noticeable jump in GPU Ram from 1GB to 8GB is a tall order for some gamers. Only 2GB more RAM is recommended, but a substantial jump in processor (Intel i3 to i5) and graphics card (GeForce GT 640 to GeForce GTX 970) might mean that some gamers will need to lower their settings to enjoy the game at a good frame rate.
However, even then Apex isn’t nearly the most intensive game in the battle royale market when talking about specs. Let’s look at the Call of Duty: Warzone specs:
Huge difference there and these games are in the same genre. Warzone requires double the RAM (8 to 16) as Apex, a better graphics card (GeForce GTX 970 to GeForce GTX 1080), and a jump in the processor from an Intel Core i5 to an i7.
When considering this comparison, it’s fair to say that Respawn was concerned with making sure that gamers can access and play their game.
Best Settings
As with any online game—and especially FPS games—the settings are often a big contributing factor to a player’s success. Now, settings don’t necessarily make or break players, but sorting out the right ‘sweet spot’ for your gameplay can help the game feel more attuned to your style.

DPI
The average DPI that pro Apex gamers use is between 400 to 800 DPI. A lot of peripheral companies tout that their mouses can reach crazy levels of DPI, but it’s unnecessary. Looking at what the pros do, higher than 800 might not be that beneficial.
Mouse Sensitivity
The ADS (Aim Down Sights) sensitivity in Apex doesn’t match the hip-fire sensitivity when both are set to 1. It’s a weird design, and one of the most criticized for the game, but regardless, most Apex pros set it at 1 anyway. For a ‘truer’ 1:1 ADS to hip-fire ratio, you can try somewhere between 1.2-1.5 sensitivity.
