Whenever you get tired of your old workout routine, you might consider trying out other forms of exercise like roller skating. Roller skating has been proven to be an effective alternative to the traditional workout routines that we know. Working out with roller skates has been proven to be an effective alternative to the traditional workout routines that we know.  Doing roller skating can give your body extensive and considerable health benefits. The RSAI or the Roller Skating Association International stated that roller skating enables every muscle in your body to work and burn up to 350 to 600 calories per hour. These Inline skates by WowSkates would be a great consideration for you if you are fond of skating.

Roller skating is also considered a competitive sport in which the athletes wear special shoes fitted with small wheels that allow them to move on rinks or asphalt surfaces. These shoes are called rollerblades, and there are recommended rollerblades for men, women, and kids that provide comfort for specific needs. Sports like speed skating, figure skating, ice skating, hockey, and dance competition fall under the same category as roller skating. These are extreme sports that require you to be physically fit to participate in these sports. Here are 5 health benefits when you want to try roller skating.

1.  Burns calories

Roller skating is a fun and effective way to burn calories. In fact, an average-sized person will burn 9 or 10 calories per minute when roller skating. And for an hour, a person would lose a total of 900 – 1000 calories. Considering a 200lbs person trying to roller skate for an hour, that person will burn approximately 1,138 calories.

2.  Can build up your muscles

Roller skating is likely comparable to jogging. The only difference is that you are working more muscles when you do roller skates, and it requires more leg and core strength. Your glutes and leg muscles are at work as you move around in roller skating. Since roller skating needs balance, your arms and core muscles are also put to the test. It would require you to have great body coordination and stronger muscles to prevent you from falling, tripping, and any other injuries as you skate.

You can also try different forms when you skate and hit specific muscles in your body. Some forms can enhance your legs, calves, glutes, and quads. You could try different positions so you can strengthen your core muscles.

3.  Good for the Heart

When they say roller skating can strengthen your muscles, they mean every single muscle in your body, including the heart. Roller skating is also listed as a great alternative to regular cardio exercises. Doing any kind of roller skating will increase the average heart rate from 140 – 160 beats per minute. When you do roller skating every day, it will drastically change your heart rate to about 180 beats per minute, much like an athlete’s.

4.  Good for the joints

Roller skating is also good for your joints since the pressure applied to your bones is lesser compared to walking or jogging. When you skate, you are doing flexible motions most of the time. Flexible movement reduces the possibility of having joint damage that will less likely cause injury. You are less likely to experience sprains, aches, and difficulty in doing daily tasks.

5.  Enhances your balance and body coordination

Balance is the most important aspect to master when you want to try skating. You have to know how to balance yourself when you do skating and do certain techniques to improve your form. Maintaining your balance itself will require your core muscles to exert effort, resulting in improved abdominal and lower back muscles. These muscles are used when you have to roll forwards, backward, and sideways to maintain a steady form for a better balance.

Initially, roller skating might be tiring and challenging, but with more practice, you will see improvements in balancing and your overall physical health.
